Classic Canadian Songs from Smithsonian Folkways

Bob Arbuckle, Verner Mikkelson, and N. Roy Clifton, amateur square-dance musicians from the Toronto area, recorded three Folkways albums of old-time dances played in the "down east" style of Maritime fiddler Don Messer (1909–73). Intended as an aid to home practice, the recordings are equipped with liner notes that provide step-by-step instructions for executing the dances. Two perennial favourites at old-time dances are "The Heel and Toe Polka" and "The Gay Gordons" ("Scotland the Brave").
