Gilbert Anderson, Northern Alberta Métis Fiddler

After his brothers died—Pete in the late 1950s and Lawrence in the 1960s—Gilbert Anderson was encouraged by his cousin Tommy Naughton to switch from the guitar to the fiddle. Through his playing and teaching, Gilbert has become an important advocate for Métis fiddling. He frequently performs with his wife Kathleen Steinhauer, who is the daughter of The Honourable Ralph G. Steinhauer (1905–87), Alberta's and Canada's first Aboriginal Lieutenant Governor (1974–79).
