Transplanting the Hindustani Classical Music Tradition

Wasanti Paranjape’s firm grounding in Indian classical music and pedagogy combined with her understanding of Western music made her a successful teacher of Indian and non-Indian students alike. Recognizing this musical expertise and teaching ability, Dr. Qureshi asked her to become the instructor for the Indian Music Ensemble at the University of Alberta. Mrs. Paranjape directed the ensemble from 2004 to 2006, teaching voice to twenty-five beginners and to a smaller group of advanced students.
