The third approach used the family photograph collection as the point of departure for the interview. Informants shared their photograph collections with the researcher, described their contents, reminisced about the past, and gave the researcher permission to duplicate the images. This approach focused on visual and material documents that complement the stories gathered in interviews and oral histories.
