The History of Fiddling in Northern Alberta to 1950

Our memories of fiddle music are attached to recollections of the communities, occasions, places, and eras with which we associate particular fiddlers and tunes. As tunes are passed along from one fiddler to another, they connect generations of fiddlers, past, present, and future. Fiddlers from the distant past leave audible traces on living fiddlers who continue to play their tunes. The fiddlers of the Northern Alberta Fiddle Project (NAFP) reveal something about the entire history of fiddling in Northern Alberta through the tunes that they play and the memories that these tunes evoke.
